|James Quinter Colebank and his twin brother Sylvanus were born in 1849 to Rolla and Margaret Simpson Coalbank
on their farm in Barbour County in the community called "Colebank" (not far from Kasson, West Virginia) in the Sandy
Creek Valley. Sandy Creek forms the boundary line between Barbour and Preston Counties. James grew up there on
his dad's farm.
James was employed in a steel mill two miles east of Thornton and 10 miles east of Grafton. James married Louise
Deahl, one of four children born to Henry and Catherine Kleim Deahl. Louise was born on August 29, 1870. Louise's
mother was a German immigrant. Her dad came from Pennsylvania shortly before the Civil War and settled in the
Coves near Danville, West Virginia on Kasson in Barbour County. James and Louise were married by Elias Auvil in
the home of the bride's parents.
About 1886 James and Louise bought a farm near the junction of Big and Little Sandy Creeks where Barbour,
Preston and Taylor counties join. The farm was in Mt. Pleasant (near Grafton, West Virginia) in Taylor County. James
was a farmer at heart and this is where they raised their family and made their permanent home.
James Quinter Colebank died at the age of 50 in September, 1899. Louise died six months later in March, 1900.
Both are buried in Mt. Pleasant, West Virginia in Taylor County. Cally, 23, George, 20, Palmer, 17 and Jasper, 13,
